The Judiciary Police (PJ), in conjunction with their mainland counterparts, busted a cross-border gang on Wednesday which smuggled drugs from the mainland to Macau and sold them to local drug users, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a special press conference yesterday.
The gang had operated for at least a month, according to Ho.
PJ officers arrested six suspected members – four males and two females – of the gang in Macau on Wednesday separately at their respective homes and workplaces in the northern district, city centre and Taipa, while the Zhuhai police arrested three of the gang’s alleged kingpins.
The six local suspects, aged between 25 and 34, comprise a jobless man surnamed Tang who was one of the kingpins of the gang, while the others, surnamed Pun, Ho, Ng, Lei and Chu, had been assigned different tasks, including contacting addicts to sell them drugs and offering them places to take drugs, Ho said.
According to Ho, about 8.41 grammes of ice (aka crystal meth) with an estimated street value of about 27,700 patacas and drug-taking paraphernalia were seized during the police operation in Macau, while the Zhuhai police seized 80 grammes of ice there.
Ho said that based on intelligence exchanged with the mainland police, PJ officers put Tang, who entered the mainland to buy drugs there on Tuesday and returned to Macau at noon Wednesday, under surveillance and intercepted him near his flat in the northern district. Ho added that PJ officers seized two packs of ice weighing about 3.15 grammes and 5.26 grammes from Tang, who smuggled drugs in small quantities each time.
Tang, Pun, Ng and Lei tested positive for drugs, according to Ho.
Most of the suspects admitted to taking drugs, but refused to reveal any details about their drug trafficking, Ho said, adding that the sextet were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday.
The Judiciary Police and their mainland counterparts are continuing their investigation.
