The Municipal Affairs Bureau’s (IAM) 42nd Macau Green Week is slated to take place between March 18-26, according to a statement from the bureau on Friday.
The event is themed “Passing on the love of nature to build a beautiful city together” and follows the World Forest Day’s concept, the statement noted, where a number of tree planting and experience activities for members of the public will be organised to enable them to learn about the city’s green space resources and tree maintenance challenges, among others.
The daily work of the departments involved in greening will be introduced to the public to learn about nature conservation, the statement added.
The statement said that an opening ceremony will be held on March 18 at 3 p.m. in Avenida da Praia in Taipa, noting that there will be a string of “carnival activities” such as themed and game booths to introduce local indigenous tree species, ancient and valuable trees and reptiles, among others. There will also be workshops and the handing out of plants, among others.
The carnival activities will take place from March 18-19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the statement added, while the “Walking and Tree Planting Activity of the 42nd Macau Green Week” will be held at Seac Pai Van Park on March 26 for members of the public to plant seedlings.
There will also be six plant handing-out activities in different districts, according to the statement. Over 30 sessions of experience activities will also be held during the period for local schools, groups or individuals, while new activities were added to this year’s event such as “Knowing about Nature Campus Talk”, where speakers visit schools and introduce the conservation efforts concerning giant pandas and other wild animals.
Registration for the activities is open from Wednesday through March 8.
