Applications for the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme (QTSAS) can be submitted by catering businesses and travel agencies from March 16 to March 31, according to a statement from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) yesterday.
The statement noted that the scheme, which was launched by MGTO in 2014, encourages both sectors to enhance service quality through the recognition of tourism and related businesses for their “outstanding services and excellent service management.
Eligible are those who have been running their business in the city for a year or more, restaurants and eateries licensed under designated categories and main or branch offices of licensed travel agencies in Macau, according to the statement. Those submitting the required documents and meet the application criteria will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis.
Participating merchants, the statement said, will undergo the “Mystery Shopping Assessment” and “Service Management System Audit” and those passing both can receive accreditation certificates, as well as window stickers and badges to display in their respective business.
The scheme will also present awards such as “Quality Tourism Services Merchant Award” and the “Quality Tourism Services Gold Award” for the catering sector, while qualified travel agencies can receive the “Quality Tourism Services Merchant Award”.
Meanwhile, the statement added that currently-accredited catering businesses can either compete for the awards again or undergo the assessment during the respective supervision period to maintain their accredited status. If choosing to compete again they will have to submit new applications to compete with new participants for the awards.
The statement noted that currently-accredited travel agencies are not required to apply again and can keep their accreditation if they fulfil the criteria.
The statement said that quotas of 100 catering businesses and 30 travel agencies are set this year. Applications can be submitted through the Macao Tourism Industry Net at http://industry.macaotourism.gov.mo
