The Transport Bureau (DSAT) and Public Security Police (PSP) said in a joint statement yesterday that they will continue to strengthen the crackdown on people violating the law by putting flattened cardboard boxes under moving public buses to compress them further, so as to ensure the normal operation of buses and the smooth flow of traffic.

According to the statement, the bureau and the police raised the concern that people using bus wheels to compress cardboard boxes in the northern district, mainly on Avenida de Artur Tamagnini Barbosa, Estrada dos Cavaleiros, and Rua da Tribuna.

Apart from breaching the city’s road traffic laws, the statement underlined, such behaviour not only affected the normal operation of the bus, but also posed a great safety hazard to road users.

The statement said that the bureau has requested the two local public bus companies to pay close attention to possible violations in the area of bus stops, and report to the police immediately an incident occurs.

The statement pointed out that such violations have been reduced after days of follow-up.

The bureau and the police urged both pedestrians, and drivers and riders to obey the traffic rules.
