Local artist Yaya Vai (韋艷芳) is displaying her paintings and an installation at the Creative Macau gallery in an exhibition titled “Awaken and to be Continued”.

The gallery is located on the ground floor of the Macau Cultural Centre complex in Nape.

Vai said in a recent statement from the gallery that people may wish that what happened in recent years was only a dream, asking: “If it is time to wake up, are you ready?”. She also questioned what needed to be done to prepare oneself if the environment has changed.

Vai noted in the statement that there have been a lot of unknowns that have affected her over the last few years and that life seems to have got stuck, needing to let go in order to make herself move forward.

With reference to the exhibition title, she underlined that she is in a stage between awakening and lying flat, with the series of works displayed at the exhibition being a “self-dialogue”. “To be continued”, meanwhile, means that she needed to forget the past and move on, Vai said.

The statement also noted that Vai started learning pencil sketching and oil painting as a hobby in 2000. She later obtained a certificate in Visual Art Marketing and Management, according to the statement, and has had some of her artworks chosen for several joint exhibitions such as Autumn Salon and Macau H853 Super Art Fair.

The statement added that her artworks are inspired by “floral and female topics”. Art is a way to reduce stress for Vai, the statement pointed out, noting that she hopes that her work can encourage concern for women’s emotional healthiness.

The artworks will be on display until April 4. The gallery is open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, except public holidays. Admission is free.
