The sandpit in the children’s playground in Lam Mau Tong, the district south-west of Fai Chi Kei, will be closed tomorrow for its monthly cleaning and maintenance work, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday.
The children’s playground, which features the Macau peninsula’s first outdoor sandpit, opened in November last year.
The statement underlined that monthly cleaning and maintenance of the sandpit is needed with the aim of ensuring users’ safety and environmental hygiene of the sandpit.
The maintenance will last for one day, after which the sandpit will reopen on Thursday, according to the statement.
The statement said that the maintenance work of the sandpit will include stirring, drying by sunlight, sifting, raking and disinfection of the sand. In addition, sand replenishment will also be carried out tomorrow with the aim of maintaining the quality of the sandpit.
The statement said that the sandpit’s reopening would be postponed in case of adverse weather and other special conditions during the maintenance.
