The 2023 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races are slated to take place from June 17-18 and on June 22 at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre.
The organising committee held a press conference to reveal the details of the event at Grand Lisboa yesterday. The upcoming races are jointly organised by the Sports Bureau (ID), the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China (DBAMC), and SJM Resorts that covers the expenses.
In his speech ID President Pun Weng Kun said he believed that the collaboration between the organisers would “add colour to the event by connecting elements” including sports and tourism, as well as extend its “traditional, carnival-style atmosphere”.
SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu-fung said in her speech that through her company’s collaboration with the other organisers, “we will continue to showcase traditional Chinese sports culture, nurture young talent, and draw international attention to this intangible cultural heritage”.
Small dragon boat local races will take place on June 17, while standard local races will take place on June 18. This year will also see the return of the Macao International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race and the Macao University Student Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race, both of which had been previously suspended since 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation.
