A Filipino non-resident worker (NRW) has been arrested for riding a bicycle under the influence in Areia Preta, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Balasabas is a cleaner in his 30s.
According to Kong, the police received a report about a traffic accident at around 8 p.m. last Thursday in the Areia Preta district. Police officers who arrived at the scene discovered Balasabas and a fallen bicycle lying on the road. Police officers found him reeking of alcohol and took him to hospital.
After a blood test, his alcohol level was recorded at 2.59 grammes per litre. Balasabas admitted to drinking at around 6 p.m. near Rotunda de Carlos da Maia earlier that day.
CCTV footage showed that he had lost control and fell to the ground after he passed the zebra crossing and just missed a pedestrian crossing the zebra.
Balasabas has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a drunk-driving charge, according to Kong.
