Police arrested a man and 10 prostitutes on Thursday about their alleged involvement in prostitution, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The 59-year-old male suspect, identified as Chio, told the police that he’s jobless.
According to Cheong, Chio was seen on Thursday by police officers approaching pedestrians and enquiring whether they required the services of a prostitute in Ian Hon district. When he saw the police, he attempted to flee the scene but was intercepted.
Chio was then taken to his flat nearby where two prostitutes were found.
Under questioning, Chio admitted to renting the flat to prostitutes for a daily charge of 450 patacas, as well as helping the sex workers find customers on the street. In contrast, the two prostitutes said they charged 200 patacas for their services, adding that they came to Macau last Tuesday and Thursday respectively from the mainland.
Cheong also revealed that on the same day, the police arrested eight additional women suspected of offering commercial sex in a different flat.
The 10 prostitutes, whose ages range from 23 to their fifties, comprise eight women from the mainland and two from Vietnam, according to Cheong.
During the operation, police seized a quantity of condoms, lubricants and towels from the two flats as evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and the owner of the second flat is being investigated.
Cheong noted that Chio has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of pimping, and aiding and abetting.
