A local man has been arrested for stealing a ring worth HK$50,000 that he found on a bench, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Chio is a 42-year-old renovation worker.
According to Cheong, the police received a report from a woman on Saturday, saying that she had left a ring worth HK$50,000 on a bench earlier that day on Avenida de Cinco de Outubro in Coloane.
Thanks to CCTV footage, PSP officers saw a man walking near the bench and picking up the ring. The officers located Chio and arrested him on Sunday in Rua do Almirante Costa Cabral.
Chio admitted to committing the crime out of greed. The officers found the stolen ring in Chio’s home.
Chio has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Cheong.
