The Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) took a delegation to Penang and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from Saturday to Monday on the final stop of its 11-day Southeast Asia tour to promote the Guangdong Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and trade cooperation between Macau and Malaysia, thereby discussing development opportunities with investors in Malaysia.

The statement noted that as of last year, China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years.

The statement noted that IPIM carried out a series of promotion activities on the three-day trip in Malaysia, where local enterprises signed a total of four cooperation agreements, involving new energy materials supply, new energy system construction, specialty food trade, and cooperation on Malaysian brand cultural activities.

IPIM President Vincent U U Sang introduced Macau’s investment environment and the development opportunities of Macau and Hengqin, underlining that Macau as a separate customs territory has been enjoying close economic and trade ties with the European Union and Portuguese-speaking-countries, potentially providing “unlimited” business opportunities for overseas enterprises.

Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) President Loo Kok Seong pointed out that China has been a major investment market for Malaysian enterprises, and that the business environment, industrial development base and the supporting policies in Macau and Hengqin are “very attractive”.

Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin Deputy Director Fu Yongge said that China and Malaysia have a strong complementary relationship in terms of economy and trade, as well as a deep foundation for cooperation, especially in the fields of technology research and development, biomedicine, cultural tourism and commerce, modern finance, and the digital economy.

Representatives from Malaysia said that through a series of promotion activities, they have been able to gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and they also expressed optimism about the future investment and development prospects of Macau and Hengqin, the statement said, adding that the Malaysian representatives will further study the favourable policies in Macau and Hengqin, and pay a visit to both as soon as possible.
