The Water and Marine Bureau (DSAMA) introduced this year’s “shower-for-five-minutes challenge” for today’s World Water Day, aiming to promote the importance of water conservation.
The bureau encouraged residents to shower within for five short minutes on World Water Day, as a minute of showering could use up to 10 litres of water, which is enough for a person to drink for five days, the statement noted.
The statement said the bureau has called on over 150 public entities, including government entities, schools, community associations and hotels to take up the challenge, and urged all residents and tourists to accept the challenge, stressing that by changing water use habits little by little, the concept of water conservation can be put into daily practice.
The statement noted that Macau is a city with an extreme dearth of fresh water resources, and in 2021 and 2022, about 99 percent of its raw water was supplied by the mainland, therefore, it is necessary for all sectors in Macau to take action to cherish the nation’s water resources.
This poster provided by the Water and Marine Bureau (DSAMA) yesterday asks the public to join today’s 5-minute shower challenge.
