Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon, who is also the spokesman for the government’s top advisory Executive Council, has announced that the government expects to spend 438 million patacas for the upcoming round of its annual medical subsidy programme – known as health vouchers, which will start on May 1.

Cheong made the announcement during a press conference at Government Headquarters on Friday.

Sticking to same modus operandi as in the past several years, the 2023-round of health e-vouchers worth 600 patacas will be valid for two years, until April 30, 2025.

The amount of the health vouchers for each recipient was 500 patacas when the programme was launched in 2009. The amount was raised to the current 600 patacas in 2013. The scheme only benefits permanent local residents.

The health e-vouchers are only valid for consultations and treatments offered by health professionals in the private sector not subsidised by the government, Cheong noted.

The e-vouchers are fully or partly transferable to their beneficiaries’ spouse, parents or children who are permanent residents, Cheong pointed out.
