The Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) urged the public yesterday to beware of phone calls made by purported CTT officials intending to obtain personal information.
According to a CTT statement, the bureau has recently received reports from residents that they had received phone calls from fake CTT officials, claiming that “the packages that were addressed to them were involved in criminal activities”. The bogus officials also claimed that CTT had been entrusted by the mainland police to make the call, requesting the residents to “cooperate with the police investigation”.
The bureau reaffirmed that no such calls have been made.
The statement underlined that anyone who received such phone calls should always stay vigilant, not trust them, nor follow the callers’ instructions such as to provide their personal information to them.
Anyone suspecting that they have been scammed by calls from bogus officials should call the Judiciary Police (PJ) anti-fraud hotline on 8800 7777 or 993 for assistance, the statement stressed.
