Gaming resort operator MGM partnered with Art Basel Hong Kong to present the recently held “Long Time No See” Sector Party in Hong Kong, according to an MGM statement last week.
The statement noted that the celebration was hosted by MGM China Holdings Limited’s Co-Chairperson and Executive Director Pansy Ho Chiu-king and Art Basel Hong Kong Director Angelle Siyang-Le to support creative energy returning to Hong Kong as the city welcomes back local and international visitors.
The statement noted that the partnership kick-started one of Hong Kong’s first major art and cultural occasions sponsored by MGM during the Art Basel week at The Landmark’s newly launched venue, Forty-Five. The event featured renowned art and cultural figures, fashion icons, music and movie industry leaders such as Pharrell Williams, Li Xiaopeng, and Adrian Cheng.
The statement said that with shared cultural roots of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, the party was a “special occasion that deepened the cultural exchanges in the Greater Bay Area (GBA)”.
It also “strengthened its connection to the rest of the world”, with over 1,000 local and international visitors from the art and culture, entertainment and performance world who attended the event.
Ho was quoted in the statement as saying: “As the region reopened borders this year, we felt that there was no better moment than now to celebrate the restart of art and cultural activities”, reuniting with Art Basel and reconnecting with local and international guests by co-presenting the event.
Ho added: “We aim to engage with our global audiences through building an extensive network of arts and culture with Art Basel Hong Kong, which is an integral part of our longstanding commitment to global art and cultural development and our effort to help Macau achieve economic diversification.”
Moreover, MGM and Art Basel Hong Kong introduced a range of Cantonese delicacies at the event, while the night saw artistic performances and contemporary music. There was also a special performance associated with MGM and curated by Surprise Surprise titled “The Lion Awakens”.
MGM also invited Art Basel Hong Kong’s “high calibre VIPs” to visit Macau and explore UNESCO World Heritage sites and the creative gastronomy scene.
Moreover, a group of VIPs from Macau were taken to Art Basel Hong Kong including Ho Iok San, in her capacity as representative of the president of the Consultative Committee for Cultural Development (CCDC) and chief-of office of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture, and CCDC Vice President and Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) Director Leong Wai Man.
