Local art organisation MyLand Culture presented an art exhibition titled “Twenty Exercises for the Body to Be the Soul’s Companion” on Friday at the At Light Art Gallery on Avenida da Praia Grande, according to a statement released by the organisation on Sunday.
The exhibition features an artist book and a series of participatory artworks conceived by local artist Joein Leong Chou In (梁祖賢), the statement noted.
The project began in 2021 as a collection of simple body exercises designed by Leong to encourage individuals to connect with their physical being, the statement pointed out, adding that it has since evolved into an artist book and portable art exhibition. Comprising 20 life exercises targeting the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind, the exercises invite participants to dedicate moments of time to experience the body as a companion to the soul, the statement noted.
According to the statement, Leong has selected for the exhibition several exercises from her book for visitors to participate in with the aid of various props and prompts. For example, a treadmill has been installed to stimulate a walking meditation, during which the visitors will be guided to ask the philosophical question “Who Am I?” Audio players have also been installed to recite Pablo Neruda’s love poem “So That You Will Hear Me” in different languages to create complex feelings on “Beautiful Misunderstanding”.
The exhibition runs until May 1. Admission is free and the artist book is available for purchase. For details and public programme information, visit: https://twentyexercises.carrd.co/
