The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement on Saturday that it launched the second phase of its “Macao Treat” special offer yesterday, which is now extended to Taiwanese and international visitors in Hong Kong, in addition to Hong Kong residents who were already covered by Phase 1.
MGTO launched the “Macao Treat”, the buy-one-get-one-free special offer in the first quarter of this year, which ended on March 31, and was aimed at Hong Kong residents.
The statement noted that the special offer is in the form of free return ticket for use on another day upon the purchase of shuttle bus or ferry ticket to Macau until June 30. It aims to attract overnight visitors from wider source markets and invigorate travellers’ interest in Macau for tourism and the city’s economic revival.
The statement said that the service operators providing the special offer are Hong Kong – Macao Express, One Bus Hong Kong Macau and Eternal East Cross-Border Coach Management Limited on land, as well as TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet by sea.
The statement said that Hong Kong residents or Taiwanese/foreign visitors to Hong Kong can use the special offer once from each of the five service providers at most.
Meanwhile, the statement pointed out that during the period of the offer’s first phase, 145,657 ferry or bus rides were utilised with the special offer, with over 100,000 ferry tickets and more than 45,000 bus tickets, adding that it became a topic of discussion in Hong Kong on various social media platforms.
Visitor arrivals have shown a “steady upward trend” in Macau in recent months, according to the statement, noting that provisional figures indicate that Macau registered over 4.96 million visitor arrivals in the first quarter, including around 1.51 million Hong Kong visitors, a nearly tenfold surge year-on-year.
