Gaming resort operator MGM said in a statement on Wednesday that it is collaborating with the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) in the “MGM Youth Development Series – MGM Technical and Vocational Education School – Enterprise Cooperation”, which provides internship learning opportunities for Macau Kung Luen Vocational & Technical Middle School’s students.
FAOM is commonly known by its Cantonese name – Gung Luen (Kung Luen being an alternative spelling). The statement noted that MGM inked a letter of intent with the federation last year, with the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau’s (DSEDJ) support, to become the first integrated resort operator to promote technical and vocational education with FAOM.
According to the statement, the cooperation features tailor-made learning programmes consisting of internships, training courses and site visits.
The statement said that the launch ceremony for the programme was held at MGM COTAI and attended by several guests and over 50 students and teachers from the Macau Kung Luen Vocational & Technical Middle School.
The statement quoted DSEDJ’s Head of Division of Secondary Education
Leong I On as saying: “We are thrilled to see the establishment of this vocational training partnership of pre-career education between a large enterprise and a local school to prepare students for their future career and offer them practical job experience”.
FAOM President Lee Chong Cheng said in the statement: “We are honoured to join hands with MGM once again to promote the diverse development of Macau and enhance the city’s talent pool”
Moreover, the statement quoted Human Resources Executive Vice President Wendy Yu as saying: “While this programme is about providing opportunities to students to enhance their professional skills through taking part in the daily operations of a hotel, more importantly it nurtures their occupational quality and prepares them for their future career path.”
Eight students who enrolled in the cooperation project earned their three-month internship opportunity through a school recommendation and interview with MGM department heads, will be working at the Department of Digital and Information Technology, the statement noted.
