The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement that more than 3,500 takeaways had registered with IAM for authorisation to run their business, reminding them that they must formalise their registration before opening, as violators face a fine of 5,000 to 35,000 patacas.

Takeaways are eateries that do not provide on-site dining services.

IAM reminds the restaurant trade that the certificate of registration or the registration number must always be displayed to the public for identification during their operation.

As of March 31, the statement noted, the bureau had issued a total of 4,248 certificates of registration, with 3,557 registered takeaways currently in operation and 691 takeaways whose operators had applied for deregistration.

The statement also said that the bureau has prosecuted three takeaways that were open to the public before being issued with a registration certificate, and one takeaway for failing to display its registration information to the public.

The statement underlined that online food trading platforms (e.g., takeaway mobile apps) also must ensure that all takeaways on their platforms are registered and that information such as their registration numbers are displayed on the platforms to make it easy for consumers to identify them.

For more information about the takeaway registration, the public can refer to the bureau’s Food Safety Information official website at https://www.foodsafety.gov.mo/e/default.
