The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) and Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced in a joint statement yesterday that the lower enclosed deck of the Macau-Taipa Sai Van Bridge will temporarily open for light passenger vehicles only from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The statement said that in anticipation of the approaching typhoon season, with the coordination of the Public Works Bureau, Transport Bureau, Public Security Police (PSP) and Fire Services Bureau (CB), the enclosed deck will be temporarily opened, so that car drivers can familiarise themselves with the traffic arrangements involving the emergency access to the bridge’s enclosed deck and nearby roads when Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 is hoisted.
When using the enclosed deck, the statement underlined, all light vehicle drivers must pay close attention to the temporary traffic signs on the nearby roads and follow the on-site commands of traffic police.
The statement stressed that the drivers should take the route that enters the enclosed deck during typhoons, that is, entering from Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van or Avenida da República towards Taipa, and en route to Macau peninsula from Avenida dos Jogos da Ásia Oriental
The statement also stressed that the drivers must observe the maximum speed limit of 40 km/h in the enclosed deck and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
