The 70th Macau Grand Prix – Family Carnival is slated to take place this weekend at the Coloane Karting Track from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to a statement from the Sports Bureau (ID).

This will be the first time that the carnival will be held at the track.

The statement said that the event is held to enable residents and tourists to enjoy the “thrilling atmosphere” of the Macau Grand Prix (MGP), which will have its 70th edition take place from November 11-12 and November 16-19, in advance. It will also “deepen their understanding of the event”, according to the statement.

The karting track, which is a training base for motorsport in Macau, was chosen as the carnival’s venue to let participants experience motor racing’s atmosphere, enhance the younger generation’s knowledge of and interest in motorsport, and foster the “heritage of motorsport culture and spirit”, the statement added.

The carnival will also feature a karting experience activity open for on-site registration for those aged 18 and up, and holding a light motor vehicle driving licence. Moreover, kids can take part in games such as “little kart racing drivers and crew members at the circuit”, the statement said. Participants can also win Grand Prix-themed souvenirs.

The karting track hosts karting races, driver training and staff training sessions every year, including the MGP’s staff training, the statement added. Karting is widely seen as “the cradle of motorsport”, with many racers starting their career go-karting before moving up to other race events.

The statement said that two shuttle buses are arranged to take participants to and from the karting track, with buses from Macau Forum in Zape and Taipa Central Park near Nova City’s Towers 9-11.
