The MGTO said in a statement yesterday that in a total of 455 inspections that have been carried out around the city since the beginning of this year in conjunction with the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and Public Security Police (PSP), 12 flats suspected of providing accommodation illegally have been sealed.

Moreover, seven mainland tourists working as unlicensed tour guides in Macau have been caught.

Law No.3/2022, which amended Law No.3/2010, on the “Prohibition of Providing Illegal Accommodation” has been in effect since April last year.

In the run-up to the May Day Golden Week holiday, the statement said, the the government has conducted inspections and distributed leaflets providing information about protecting visitors’ consumer rights at various border checkpoints and tourist attractions, and also carried out spot checks on tour groups and monitored travel agents’ work, in order to identify suspected illegal tour guides and illegal tour groups.

MGTO has requested travel agencies to ensure that their coach drivers observe traffic regulations and safety, according to the statement.

Tourism Hotline 2833 3000 maintains a 24-hour operator service for tourism-related enquiries, the statement noted.
