The Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau said in a recent statement that it joined forces with the Macau IC2 Association to celebrate World Earth Day, with a “Green Walk” from Fisherman’s Wharf to the surroundings of the hotel’s lawn area, as well as a string of “educational and exciting” activities.

World Earth Day is an annual event commemorated on April 22.

IC2 stands for “I Can Too”.

Themed “IC2 Invests In Our Planet”, this year’s event, which took place last Saturday, aimed to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection and sustainable living practices, the statement said, adding that this was the third consecutive year for the hotel and association to co-host the event.

Last week’s event, which was attended by over 150 participants, featured activities such as a fashion show of clothes made with recycled materials, a Harmony Choir performance with sign language, Osmanthus Fragrans tree-planting ceremony and booth games, according to the statement.

The statement said that the Osmanthus Fragrans tree (aka Sweet Osmanthus or Fragrant Olive) is a symbol of perseverance, resilience, and hope.

The statement quoted António Luís Leong, president of the association, as saying that as the first and only rehabilitation organisation in Macau managed by citizens with intellectual disabilities and autism, IC2 promotes environmental awareness and regularly organises community activities, adding that members of the association have personally planned and successfully hosted World Earth Day activities in 2021 and 2022 to raise the public’s awareness of protecting the Earth and caring for the environment.

“We hope that the event has inspired people to think about the impact of their actions on the planet and make small changes in their daily lives to reduce their carbon footprint,” said Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau General Manager Rutger Verschuren, who is also area vice president of the Macau Operations of Artyzen Hospitality Group.
