The anniversary of the Public Security Police Force is celebrated annually on March 14, and one of the highlights of its various celebratory events for the 333th anniversary was “Police Community Day”, which took place in Praça do Tap Seac yesterday.
Scores of residents, including many children and their parents, attended the event.
During the opening ceremony at 10 a.m., 14 members of the public who have assisted the police in fighting crime and protecting lives received a certificate of recognition, while 754 police officers received awards for their outstanding performance in the past year.
Delivering a speech during the ceremony, PSP Commissioner Ng Kam Wa said that the success of community policing depends on the efforts of the police force and the public’s cooperation, adding that celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the 25th anniversary of Macau’ return to the motherland, in combination with the election of the chief executive later this year, the police “will make timely adjustments to their law enforcement deployment and make every effort to prevent and combat illegal activities”, contributing to the maintenance of national security and social stability.
Ng said that the annual Police Community Day does enable members of the public to gain a better understanding of the work of various departments of the police force, thus bringing their officers closer to the general public.
A number of booths with games on the themes of crime prevention and law-abiding awareness, traffic safety and civil protection were set up during the event, in addition to a variety of cultural and entertainment performances, including a show by the PSP canine unit and police marching drills.
The first post-pandemic Police Community Day, which had been suspended for four years, was also addressed by Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak, Unitary Police Service (SPU) Commissioner-General Leong Man Cheong and Deputy Director of the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government Wang Qianjin.
