The five-day Golden Week, which started last Saturday and ended on Wednesday, was beyond the Macau Government Tourism Office’s (MGTO) expectations and had “very good” results, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes told reporters yesterday.
Senna Fernandes made the remarks after a press conference that was held at The Londoner Macao, which announced details on the fourth edition of the Sands Shopping Carnival.
Senna Fernandes said that Macau logged around 490,000 arrivals throughout the period, with the first three days having recorded over 100,000 visitors per day entering Macau. Moreover, she underlined that prior to the Golden Week, MGTO conducted a survey among hotels in Macau, the findings of which showed that only around 2,000 rooms were not “open for sale” this time.
According to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC), Macau’s 126 hotels and inns provided a total of 39,000 “available” guestrooms at the end of March.
“It has really been an improvement compared to when we just reopened Macau, so I think that’s a good sign”, Senna Fernandes pointed out.
Meanwhile, she added that there were still some things to “be relooked at” to see what can be improved upon and what other measures can be put in place in preparation for the summer holidays and the National Day “Golden Week” holiday in October, which are peak travelling periods.
Both MGTO and hotels are also looking at ways to continuously improve their services, with MGTO soon to meet with its trade partners to see what can be improved upon and the other measures that can be put in place.
