A medical magazine, which was suspended in 2010, will resume publication semi-annually, the Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement on Sunday, which quoted SSM Director Alvis Lo Iek Long as saying during the 1st plenary meeting of the publication’s Editorial Department that he expected to strengthen the local medical research and academic atmosphere through the magazine covering academic achievements, so as to improve the level of public health, community medicine and specialised medical treatment in Macau.

The statement said that the meeting was held “recently”.

Directly translated from its Chinese and Portuguese names, the publication is named “Macau Health Science Magazine”.

Dr Lo is the editor-in-chief of the magazine.

The statement underlined that the public tender for the design and printing of the magazine is currently underway. The statement did not say in which languages the magazine will be published and when its first issue will come out.

According to the statement, the magazine was first published in 2001.

The statement also quoted Dr Lo as saying he hoped that the publication can play a role in linking teaching and scientific research, achieving the objectives of “mutual benefits of medical education” and “mutual assistance in medical research”, promoting academic exchanges, while also promoting the development of specialist medical procedures, and serving as an important bridge between local and international standards.

Dr Lo said he was encouraging all local health professionals to synthesise their clinical experiences, develop medical studies and data analysis, prepare final reports and publish scientific research articles, hoping to gather the energy of more excellent health professionals to drive coordinated development through innovation, the statement noted.

According to the statement, the 75 members of the magzine’s Editorial Department are doctors from different local medical institutions and two professors from the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Macau (UM), with Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U assuming the position of honorary editor-in-chief in the Publication Committee.
