The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) organised a Macau food sector visit to Jiangmen city in Guangdong province on April 26 to exchange experiences on food safety management, IAM said in a statement yesterday.
The delegation, which comprised 29 members, met with representatives from the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation, Jiangmen Administration for Market Regulation and food enterprises, exchanging views on food safety management in both regions, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the delegation featured representatives from the Industrial Association of Macau, Macau Union Suppliers Association, The United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macao, Association of Macau Small and Medium Enterprises of Catering, Macao Food Safety Management Association, and a number of local food production enterprises.
During the visit, the statement added, officials of the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation introduced the most important points of food safety work in Guangdong and their “standard work” in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as measures to protect the safety and stable supply of the food supplied to Macau.
Moreover, the statement pointed out, the delegation visited a factory that produces food seasoning to learn about the detailed operation process of food safety management and to exchange technical opinions in terms of quality monitoring, among others.
Both regions will continue to maintain a “consistent and effective joint mechanism to establish an effective food safety cooperation network” through continuous regional communication and personal training, among others, to continuously improve the ability to prevent and tackle food safety risks in the regions, according to the statement.
The statement added that this is also done to “consistently optimise the monitoring and management of food safety and food safety technology between the regions and jointly safeguard public food safety”.
Through the visit, the bureau hopes to strengthen exchanges between the two regions’ food sectors and the enhancement of food production technology innovation, as well as that the food safety level will be improved.
