The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it will be working with local animal protection groups to organise “Preparatory Class on Pet Adoption – Pet Information Stations” starting this Saturday until December in various areas of the city to disseminate information on pet ownership and owner responsibility through games and exhibitions.
According to the statement, co-hosted by the Society for the Protection of Animals (ANIMA) and the Everyone Stray Dogs Macau Volunteer Group (ESDMVG), the activities will be held once a month for a total of eight sessions, with the aim of helping participants learn about the Animal Protection Law and the Animal Epidemic Prevention Law while having fun playing games.
The statement said that it’s a lifelong responsibility to keep a pet urging residents to be responsible pet owners, promoting the concept of loving and caring for animals for life and adopting instead of buying them.
Statistics displayed on the IAM official website last night shows that 40 dogs and 63 cats have been euthanised since the beginning of the year, while 65 dogs and 84 cats have been adopted.
Free neutering and spaying surgery, microchipping and rabies vaccination for dogs to be adopted will be provided by IAM.
Members of the public can go to IAM’s “Preparatory Class on Pet Adoption” Facebook Page for more information on local animal adoption.
