The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday that it has partnered with Metro Radio Hong Kong and Metro Education plus to launch the “Explore Macao • Student experience”, with around 60 high school students and teachers from Hong Kong joining a two-day educational trip to Macau.
The statement noted that the trip, which took place over the weekend, aimed to “uncover the potential of educational tour products” in Macau and encourage more Hong Kong schools to organise similar activities for “tourism + learning”.
Seminars on Macau educational tours and workshops about social media video production were recently organised in Hong Kong, according to the statement, where the “Explore Macao • Student experience” activity was looking for participation from the around 350,000 students and teachers in 300 Hong Kong high schools.
The around 60 students and teachers, led by Metro Radio Hong Kong anchor Barry Ip (葉文輝), were from invited high schools to join the two-day trip, the statement said. The group visited the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Macau and the Macau Grand Prix Museum, among others, and savoured the city’s culinary delights.
Moreover, the statement added that the educational tour group also visited the University of Macau (UM) to learn more about its facilities and UM’s STEM education. Students and teachers also learnt about UM’s degree programmes in an education information session, the statement said.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Moreover, the students also learnt how to create promotional videos about Macau on social media under the guidance of professional YouTuber team “Chill Up”, the statement said.
Participating students and teachers from each school will produce at least one video themed around Macau’s culture and educational trip experience for promotion on social media and in their schools, the statement said. MGTO, Metro Radio Hong Kong and Metro Education plus will share the most outstanding videos on their social media platforms.
The statement noted that the activity also aims to “widen the promotional effect through students sharing their trip experience on social media to expand the range of the Hong Kong visitor market” and promote “tourism + learning”, with the activity expected to reach around 1.06 million Hong Kong teachers, students and parents.
