Visitors rise 274 pct to 2.2 million in April

Macau’s visitor arrivals rose by 274.7 percent year on year to 2.27 million last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.

According to a DSEC statement, overnight visitors (1.17 million) and same-day visitors (1.09 million) increased by 550.2 percent and 157.7 percent respectively.

Overnight visitors’ average length of stay dropped by 1.4 days to 2.2 days.

Mainland China visitor arrivals rose by 159.3 percent to 1.38 million. Visitors from Hong Kong (745,282) and Taiwan (33,295) increased by 1.039.3 percent and 419.0 percent respectively.

Visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan totalled 2.16 million last month, accounting for 95.2 percent of all visitor arrivals.

Some 43.0 percent and 40.9 percent of all visitors arrived through the Barrier Gate and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge checkpoints respectively. A total of 153,231 visitors arrived by air, or 6.7 percent of all visitor arrivals.

In the first four months, the number of visitor arrivals grew by 190.8 percent to 7.22 million.
