New Macau Association (NMA) activists urged the government yesterday to clear up concerns about its controversial joint university admission examination scheduled to be implemented next year.

The joint exam replaces the separate entrance exams of four local tertiary education institutions, namely the public University of Macau (UM), Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM,) and the private Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

Addressing a press conference at the grassroots group’s office in Nam Van, NMA Vice President Sulu Sou Ka Hou said that having a joint examination might be more stressful for secondary school leavers and teachers than taking separate entrance exams. He also expressed concern that the senior secondary education curriculum might become even more exam-orientated than it already is.
