The first edition of “ARCHITECTURE ON SCREEN: Macau Film Festival” featuring six award-winning films – Tokyo Ride, The Real Thing, Saal Interventions, City Dreamers, Microtopia and It’s All a Plan – is taking place at Cinematheque•Passion on Travessa da Paixão until June 8.
The three-week event, co-organised by the Docomomo Macau Association and Cinematheque•Passion, showcases “films from different countries that explore the various facets of architecture with the aim of inspiring and entertaining both professionals and enthusiasts of architecture and film, as well as encouraging dialogue and exchange between them”, according to a recent statement by the association.
The statement noted that films strive to convey the essence, beauty and challenges of architecture, as well as its influence on society and culture.
Tiago Rebocho, vice president of the association, told The Macau Post Daily on the sidelines of Saturday’s kick-off ceremony that the event “starts a conversation about not only architecture, but the whole city”, adding that the event could keep the conversation rolling to open dialogue about “the place we all live in, not only here [Macau], but also many other cities around the world”.
Films always share one particular way of looking at the world and the things people see, Rui Leão, chairman of the association, said during the ceremony, adding he believed that the event was an important way to promote a city’s culture.
