The annual Summer Activities, co-organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and Sports Bureau (ID), are open for registration from 10 a.m. today to 10 p.m. next Wednesday, providing about 45,000 vacancies, comprising 23,800 for leisure and cultural activities and 21,000 for sporting activities.
DSEDJ Student Department Chief Chan Iok Wai and ID Development Department Chief Chao Kuok Wai jointly announced the activities during a press conference at the Sports Bureau in Zape yesterday.
According to the press conference, a total of 509 activities and 1,976 classes have been launched for local children and youths aged between four and 25 to join, in which the DSEDJ will organise over 400 activities with about 1,200 classes, while the Sports Bureau will host 109 sporting activities with 776 classes.
The press conference noted that each potential applicant can enrol in only one class via their “Macao One Account” or on the summer activities website at www.summeractivity.gov.mo during the registration period, but they can apply for two more classes during the enrolment period for the remaining vacancies, i.e., each participant can actually register for up to three classes. The results of the enrolment by lucky draw will be announced on June 6.
According to Chan, in addition to continuing to provide a number of activities that were well received in the past, some activities with Chinese cultural characteristics have also been launched this year, such as a Chinese embroidery course and incense-making class, so as to carry forward Chinese culture and improve the artistic literacy of children and young people.
Chan noted that more quotas will be open for activities involving science popularisation, culture, art, calligraphy and painting, and music and dance, adding that 17 activities have been provided for children and youths requiring special education services.
A total of 14.8 million patacas and 6.53 million patacas have been earmarked respectively for this year’s leisure and cultural activities and sporting activities, according to Chan and Chao.
Two individual clarification sessions on the online registration procedure will take place today and on Saturday at the Experimentation Centre for Young People in Tap Seac and the Parenting Education Centre in Taipa respectively.
Meanwhile, according to Chao, the number of vacancies open for sporting activities has returned to that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
