SJM Resorts said in a statement on Wednesday that it organised its “Workplace Experience Series” at Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) in Cotai, for young adults where they joined vocational training seminars, a Q&A session, and a visit to the resort’s back-of-house areas.

The statement noted that the event was designed to “inspire young people from different backgrounds on career development”, adding that the participants were from the Centro Residencial Arco-Iris Youth Home of Caritas Macau and Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office.

The Anglican Church is known as Sheng Kung Hui in Macau and Hong Kong.

The statement said that SJM staff shared “practical knowledge” such as interview skills and dress etiquette at the vocational training seminars. During the Q&A sessions, participants learnt about the employment standards of large-scale integrated resorts, corporate workflows and workplace culture, according to the statement.

Participants were then led on a back-of-house tour, where they were shown the inner workings of different divisions such as housekeeping and linens. They were also introduced to the Forbes five-star service standard and observed the workflow at the loading area, among others.

The statement noted that the participants gained valuable insights into the large-scale resort operations, adding that it strengthened their understanding of workplace environments and instilled confidence by reinforcing their job seeking skills.

The statement said that SJM will continue to support the government’s policy principles of “Macau Thrives on Education” and “Building Macau through Talent Training” by “creating learning and training opportunities for young people, preparing the next generation of talents for different sectors, and contributing to Macau’s leadership role as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”.
