Sands China held a grand celebration for its British-themed integrated resort, The Londoner Macao, yesterday, which was attended by crowds of people.

The Londoner Macao’s first phase opened in February 2021 and has now completed its transformation from Sands Cotai Central.

Yesterday’s event featured English former professional footballer and Sands Global Ambassador David Beckham and Hong Kong singer-songwriter G.E.M., who gave a performance at the 6,000-seat “The Londoner Arena”, which also opened yesterday.

There were also performances by the nation’s top pianist Lang Lang and Mongolian musical theatre actor, singer and songwriter Ayanga.

Meanwhile, during a Q&A with an event emcee, Beckham, who was making his first visit to Macau in four years, remarked on the upcoming Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill and “Harry Potter: The Exhibition”.

A statement from The Londoner Macao last night noted that Imagine Exhibitions, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment and EMC Presents, have announced that “Harry Potter: The Exhibition” will make its Asia Pacific premiere in December at The Londoner Macao.

The statement said that that the exhibition, which first premiered at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, and is currently showing in Paris and New York, takes visitors on a “one-of-a-kind journey through the entire Wizarding World” using immersive design and technology to celebrate iconic moments from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts books and films.

The statement pointed out that exhibition will enable visitors to experience highlights such as practising their Quidditch skills and brewing a potion. It also celebrates iconic characters and settings, among others, from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series. The gallery highlights include From Page to Screen Gallery, Hogwarts Houses and Hogwarts Classrooms, the statement said.

The statement quoted Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment Senior Vice President Peter van Roden as saying that the exhibition “extends the storytelling for all fans of Wizarding World, giving them a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and celebrate some of their favourite moments, characters, settings, and beasts from our beloved franchise.”

Imagine Exhibitions President and CEO of Imagine Exhibitions Tom Zaller added in the statement: “Following record-breaking attendance around the globe, we’re excited for visitors from and to Macau to join us in celebrating this unique exhibition that is packed with original props and costumes, immersive environments, and magical media moments”.

Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was also quoted in the statement as saying: “We are delighted to be the first stop in Asia for this spellbinding global tour which contributes to our diverse portfolio of non-gaming offerings and echoes the Macau Government Tourism Office’s ‘tourism+ entertainment’ cross-sector integration initiative”.
