A Filipina non-resident worker (NRW) working as domestic helper has been arrested for defrauding 10 people by claiming that she worked as a teacher at a school in Taipa and could help the victims work as cleaners at the school, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said in a regular press conference on Monday.

The 45-year-old suspect is surnamed Racimo. The victims are from the Philippines and Nepal, Chan said.

According to Chan, four victims between March and this month reported to the police that they had been defrauded by a Filipina who claimed to work as a teacher at a school in Taipa. They had been introduced to her by friends, and Racimo claimed that she could arrange cleaning jobs at the school. She demanded payment of 3,000 to 9,000 patacas for each application.

The four victims, unsuspecting any fraud, recommended 10 people in total and paid a total of 55,500 patacas to Racimo. However, they were never given a job and were constantly rebuffed by the suspect. Some of the victims then enquired with the school where Racimo claimed to be working, only to find out that the suspect was not a teacher there. They confronted Racimo and subsequently took her to a police station.

Under questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime and claimed that all the ill-gotten money had been remitted to the Philippines.

Racimo was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Sunday, facing a fraud charge, according to Chan.
