Cultural Development Consultative Committee Vice President-cum-Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) President Leong Wai Man said yesterday she hoped that through the government’s financial support, Macau could further encourage and attract foreign crews to film in Macau, so as to promote the development of the local film production industry and give the local industry more opportunities to participate.
Leong made the remarks during a press conference after a closed-door meeting of the government-appointed committee at the Macau Cultural Centre in Nape.
Committee member Ieng Weng Fat pointed out that he and his fellow members agreed with the government’s “Subsidy Programme for Cinematographic and Television Filming in Macau 2023” and the “Subsidy Programme for the Promotion and Distribution of Cinematographic and Television Works with Elements of Macau 2023”, as they could help better reflect the positive image of Macau.
According to the bureau, the maximum for the total budget for the “Subsidy Programme for the Promotion and Distribution of Cinematographic and Television Works with Elements of Macau 2023” is about 2.5 million patacas, with a maximum subsidy of 250,000 patacas per project, while the total budget for the “Subsidy Programme for Cinematographic and Television Filming in Macau 2023” amounts to nearly 12 million patacas, with the maximum amount of funding for each project being two million patacas.
To receive the subsidy, the production must not involve pornography and the content must not endanger national security or violate public order, Leong stressed, adding that a few hundred overseas crews apply for permission to film in Macau every year.
