Macau’s total external trade fell by 9.0 percent year on year to 51.3 billion patacas in the first four months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
Imports dropped by 7.8 percent to 47.3 billion patacas. Re-exports decreased by 17.5 percent to 3.5 billion patacas. Domestic exports declined by 40.7 percent to 436 million patacas. Total exports, i.e., domestic exports and re-exports, decreased by 20.9 percent to 4.0 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 89.1 percent of all exports.
Food and beverage (F&B) imports accounted for nearly 17 percent of all imports, more than any other segments of imported goods. F&B imports grew by 38.9 percent to 8.03 billion patacas. Mobile phone imports dipped by 62.9 percent to 2.05 billion patacas.
Some 77.1 percent of total exports were shipped to Hong Kong. Only 2.5 percent and 0.9 percent of Macau’s exports went to the US and EU respectively.
Mainland China, France and Italy accounted for 26.6 percent, 18.1 percent and 12.8 percent of all imports respectively.
