A local Filipina has been arrested for stealing a mobile phone worth 7,000 patacas, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Aduan is in her forties.
According to Lai, when a female resident in her twenties was shopping in a supermarket in Taipa on Rua de Évora in May 21, she left her smart phone on a shelf while picking up goods. She forgot to retrieve her phone, paid for her items and left. Later, when she went back to look for her mobile phone she couldn’t find it and so reported the case to the police.
The police soon identified the suspect as Aduan and arrested her on June 5 at the Macau checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB). She admitted to picking up the phone, and claimed that she had discarded the SIM card and intended to use the phone herself.
Aduan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, Lai said.
