A female tourist from the mainland was arrested at a hotel in Cotai early on Wednesday morning for falsely reporting to the police that she had been raped and held captive by her boyfriend, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference on Friday.
The jobless suspect who is in her thirties is surnamed Li, according to Lai.
Lai said that the Public Security Police received a report from Li in the wee hours of Wednesday that she had been raped in a hotel in Cotai and was unable to leave as she was being held there against her will. Lai added that PSP officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, but about 15 minutes later, the Police Reporting Centre received another call from Li asking them to drop the case.
Li told the PSP officers who had arrived at her hotel guestroom that as a dispute between her and her boyfriend had erupted earlier due to emotional problems, she falsely reported to the police that she had been raped, adding that she requested the police to drop the case after reconciling with her boyfriend who came to Macau with her from the mainland, according to Lai.
Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of filing of a false police report.
