Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau and the Mozambique Friends Association (AAM) are hosting "A Journey of Cultural Mozambique Delights", a gastronomic experience that celebrates Mozambican cuisine and coincides with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
A press conference about the gastronomic programme was held yesterday at the Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau hotel, which also featured a live cooking demonstration of the “prawns and okra in coconut milk” dish by Ambassador of Mozambican Cuisine, Chef Carlos Khan da Graça.
The dish is a traditional one from Khan da Graça’s native province of Zambézia, according to an Artyzen statement provided yesterday.
The event was also attended by Consul General of the Republic of Mozambique in Macau Rafael Custódio Marques and AAM Vice President Tiago Azevedo, who told reporters after the press conference that the goal of the programme is to let people try the food, which may introduce them to a little bit of Mozambique, its gastronomy, flavours, and taste, which ultimately might make people decide to visit the country.
Azevedo noted that Mozambique is a “lovely and beautiful country”. Although this cannot be brought to Macau for people to experience, “little pieces” of its culture, its gastronomy and values can be, he said, noting that he hopes that people can enjoy and eventually try to find out more.
He added that gastronomy is “definitely one of the best ways” to promote Mozambican culture, and that Chef Khan da Graça, who has been promoting the country’s gastronomy for years and is knowledgeable about Mozambican food and flavours, has also brought a lot of fresh produce from the country, noting that this was important to offer the programme an authentic experience.
Moreover, a small exhibition of arts and crafts such as wood statues and paintings will also be held, Azevedo said, with the aim of letting people know more about Mozambique’s culture. It will simultaneously take place with the food promotion and run until early July.
Café Bela Vista at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau will host a raft of promotions and events from Wednesday through July 2 that will enable guests to experience Mozambique’s cuisine. More details can be found at https://artyzen.grandlapa.com/
