Two Transmac buses collided on Rotunda Flor de Lótus in Cotai yesterday afternoon, causing five injuries, including a 6-year-old girl from the mainland, according to separate statements by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and the Public Security Police (PSP).
The five victims – four females and a male – are aged between six and 69, of whom three were admitted to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for outpatient treatment, the statements said, adding that two local women each sustained a contusion to their left knee; a local man sustained a bruise to his left elbow; an Indonesian woman and the mainland girl sustained a laceration to their head and left calf respectively.
Responding to an enquiry by The Macau Post Daily last night, public bus operator Transmac said in a statement that the accident happened when the side of one of the buses collided with the side-view mirror of another bus when entering Rotunda Flor de Lótus.
The statement said that both drivers involved have many years of driving experience, and maintenance has been carried out on the two buses on a regular basis.
The company underlined in the statement that it attaches “great” importance to safety, adding that it will continue to strengthen the training of its drivers, while at the same time, reminding all its drivers to always observe the city’s traffic rules and drive carefully.
