Central District Community Service Consultative Council member Jackey Chui Ming Man said yesterday the government should implement a mandatory annual safety examination of all lifts in Macau to ensure the safety of their users.
Chui made the remarks during a regular meeting of the council at the Central Districts Residents’ Service Centre in Rotunda de Carlos da Maia.
On Sunday a boy and his parents were in a lift in the residential Long Yuen Building in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira where they live, according to a statement by the Fire Services Bureau (CB). As the boy was leaving the lift on the 15th floor, the doors suddenly closed, trapping him between them. Firefighters and lift company technicians later arrived and rescued him from between the lift doors. He was conscious when he was removed but suffered a bone fracture of his right thigh.
