The Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) held a launch ceremony for its “Education + Tourism” project in conjunction with the Association of Macao Tourist Agents on Monday, aiming to promote the “setting-up of a demonstration base for education and cultural tourism for Macau’s World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”, an MPU statement said on the same day.
The on-campus ceremony was attended by representatives from over 40 Macau travel agencies and the tourism industry, and heads of various MPU departments and trainers, among others.
The statement noted that both MPU and the association will develop education services and tourism to meet the needs of the nation, Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Southeast Asia for “international and national examinations and certification services”, as well as to assist in the work of the Examination and Certification Centre of Macao.
MPU Rector Im Sio Kei said in a speech that MPU looks forward to working with the association and the industry to “leverage cross-domain linkage on ‘Education + Tourism’, attracting more students and tourists to take part in various professional examinations and training courses, expanding diversified sources for markets for tourists and further enhance the comprehensive competitiveness for Macau’s tourism and leisure industry”.
The statement also quoted Macau Legislative Assembly (AL) member and Association of Macao Tourist Agents Chairman Cheung Kin Chung, who was among the officiating guests, as saying that the cooperative project is a significant milestone that will promote Macau’s setting-up of an “exchange and cooperation base that features Chinese culture as the mainstream with multiple coexisting cultures”.
The statement added that the “Cooperation Framework Agreement for Promoting Education and the Cultural Tourism Demonstration Base for Macao’s World Centre for Tourism and Leisure” developed by MPU, the Association of Macao Tourist Agents and the Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association strengthens cooperation in smart tourism, education and training, and study tours, among others, to support the government’s governance, expanding Macau’s “Education + Tourism” brand activities, and promoting the government’s “1+4” strategy of achieving the special administrative region’s appropriate diversified development.
According to the 1+4 model, the government will consolidate the development of the city’s tourism and leisure industry while putting special emphasis on promoting the development of four new key industries, namely 1) big health, 2) modern finance, 3) high-tech, and 4) conventions and exhibitions as well as culture and sports.
