Inflation rate slows to 1.59 pct: official

Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.59 percent last month, a further slowdown from the 1.65 percent growth in the previous month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said in a statement yesterday.

The bureau attributed the increment to higher rentals for parking spaces, the higher cost of eating out, as well as increases in property management fees, higher tuition fees in the new academic year and rising motor car prices.

Among the various sections of goods and services, the price index of food and non-alcoholic beverages that accounted for the largest share of household expenditure showed a continued slowdown in growth, rising 2.04 percent year-on-year, the statement pointed out
