The State Council in Beijing has appointed Lyu Yuyin, a former vice-governor of Guangdong province, as a deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), the Liaison Office announced in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, Lyu, born in November 1970, holds a doctoral degree in Urban Economics from Nankai University in Tianjin.
Before his appointment to his new post that took effect yesterday, Lyu had been one of the eight vice-governors of Guangdong province since January this year.
According to yesterday’s statement, Lyu started working in July 1998.
Lyu became the mayor of Zhaoqing city in Guangdong in 2019, before he assumed to post of secretary of the Zhaoqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2021.
Zhaoqing is one of the nine Guangdong cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Lyu became the secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee in late 2021.
Even after Lyu was elected vice-governor of Guangdong during a plenary meeting of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress in January this year, he continued to be the secretary of the Party committee of Macau’s adjacent city of Zhuhai, before becoming a deputy director of the Liaison Office in the MSAR yesterday.
The Liaison Office in the MSAR has four deputy directors in its organisational structure.
After Lyu’s appointment to his new post yesterday, the Liaison Office in the MSAR now has three serving deputy directors, i.e., one of the four deputy director positions is still left vacant. The other two currently serving deputy directors of the Liaison Office are Huang Liuquan and Yan Zhichan.
The Liaison Office in the MSAR has been headed by Zheng Xincong since May last year. Zheng is the highest-ranking official of the Central People’s Government posted to the MSAR.
