Macau’s Lou Lim Ioc Garden will officially become the sister garden of the Lion Forest Garden in Suzhou, one of the four classical gardens in the city, according to a statement by the Macau Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) on Friday.
Suzhou lies some 1,200 kilometres northeast of Macau, and has about 10 million inhabitants.
According to the statement, the alignment aims to strengthen cooperation between Macau and Suzhou in gardening, culture and arts, as well as exhibitions.
Lou Lim Ioc Garden is the only park in Hong Kong and Macau that boasts the charm of Suzhou’s gardens, and Lion Forest Garden is one of the four famous classical gardens in Suzhou with rich exhibitions and education values, the statement pointed out.
Through a series of exhibition activities including workshops and seminars from July 7 to July 18, the public will be introduced to the construction history and landscape design style of both gardens, in order to let members of the public better understand the different landscape features, the statement said.
IAM will also organise an online civic education quiz from July to September on its official website on the topics of greening and conservation, food safety, environmental hygiene and animal protection, in the hope of fostering good civic awareness of members of the public through these activities.
For enquiries or to register for the upcoming activities, members of the public can visit IAM’s official website at www.iam.gov.mo and the Macau Nature website at https://nature.iam.gov.mo, or call the bureau’s hotline on 2833 7676 during office hours.
