Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa left hospital in Lisbon on Wednesday after suffering what he described as a “fall in blood pressure”.
According to Portuguese media reporters yesterday, The 74-year-old head of state told reporters outside Santa Cruz Hospital that doctors had told him to drink more water, “which I really hardly ever drink.”
Rebelo de Sousa was rushed to the Santa Cruz Hospital in Carnaxide after fainting during a visit on Wednesday afternoon (local time) to the Faculty of Sciences of the New University of Lisbon.
A statement by his office on Wednesday said that the president had been admitted to the hospital “as a precautionary measure”.
Portuguese media reports said that Rebelo de Sousa suffered dizziness, nausea and fatigue during his visit.
After undergoing a raft of tests, Rebelo de Sousa left the hospital on Wednesday night (local time).
