Resort operator Sands China said in a recent statement that it is co-organising the ongoing Quality Retail Service seminar series with the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Consumer Council (CC), of which the opening ceremony was held on June 20 at The Londoner Macao.

The statement noted that the ceremony was attended by around 170 participants, including representatives from the co-organisers.

The seminar series is hosted by the company through its Sands Retail Academy, the statement said, and is aimed at retail and tourism industry practitioners, Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme merchants, and Certified Shops and Adherents.

Over the course of the series, four seminars are slated to be held from June to October to “enhance knowledge in the retail industry, thereby improving customers’ shopping experiences in Macau”, according to the statement. Each seminar focuses on a specific theme: integrity of service, quality affirmation, successful selling, and complaint resolution.

Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted in the statement as saying: “With this new series, we aim to elevate the overall level and service quality of Macau’s retail industry to maintain Macau’s brand image of integrity and excellence”.

Meanwhile, MGTO Acting Director Cheng Wai Tong said: “I am pleased to see that businesses are constantly improving the quality of their tourism and retail services, providing residents and visitors with a sense of hospitality and making Macau a well-regarded destination for shopping and tourism.”

CC’s Executive Committee President Leong Pek San was quoted as saying: “Protecting consumers’ rights and bringing them a high-quality shopping experience guarantees consumption in Macau that is based on consumer confidence.”

The statement added that after the opening ceremony, Haidilao Hot Pot manager Helen Huang, who is a certified National Human Resource Management Professional – Level 2, gave the first seminar in the series, themed integrity of service. Huang oversees the operation and management of Haidilao at The Venetian Macao.

A Consumer Council representative also gave an overview of the development of Certified Shops and Adherents, and spoke about some positive feedback from retailers who joined the Council’s Certified Shop Accreditation Project, according to the statement.
