A male taxi driver has been arrested for filming the private parts of a local female passenger, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The 39-year-old suspect is surnamed Kong.
According to Leong, a local woman in her thirties reported to the police on Wednesday that earlier that day when she was in Kong’s taxi in Areia Preta district, she noticed a cardboard box next to the driver’s seat with a lens reflection similar to a camera. After she got out of the taxi, the victim suspected that Kong had been secretly filming her private parts and reported the case to the police.
PSP officers identified Kong and summoned him with his taxi to a police station for questioning, during which police found a camera in his taxi and discovered a total of 47 video clips stored in it, nine of which involved covertly filming female passengers’ private parts. Two of the clips had captured the victim who reported the incident.
Kong admitted to using the camera hidden in the cardboard box to secretly film female passengers but refused to provide more information.
Kong was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Leong.
